Unless you're a big player, the chances are you buy a number of components from different suppliers and integrate them into a system yourself, or you rely on one of those suppliers to specify the system for you.
If it goes wrong and you don't achieve the level of performance or reliability you were expecting, have you got enough detail in your specification to find the culprit? Maybe the team who told you what to buy have designed the system to protect their own supply rather than optimise it for you?
If you don't have detailed specifications attached to your terms of supply, one day it will go wrong!
